The next Utah Mammoth superstar could be none other than Tij Iginla. Iginla performed amazingly in the WHL as he seeks to reach the NHL in the 2026-27 season.
Whether Iginla can immediately be a star is a pretty big question, but his numbers in the WHL do show his capability to instantly become an offensive force. Utah simply knows much of its future hinges on guys like Iginla or Caleb Desnoyers. This last season, though, might prove that Iginla has a very high ceiling.
Tij Iginla... The next superstar of the NHL?
Iginla in the WHL scored 41 goals and added 49 assists in only 48 games this past season. That means he somehow managed to get 90 points in fewer than 50 games. Numbers can sometimes be really inflated in the minor leagues of the NHL, but that hasn't killed the hype around Iginla.
Iginla looked great in the training camp and is determined to reach the NHL roster. Iginla, 20, has to compete against other talented wingers, but he seems likely to reach the NHL. At this point, it is well known that Iginla has the abilitiy to be great for Utah.
But Iginla could be even bigger. Some of the biggest names on the trade market and some of the biggest free agents are players Utah has decided not to pursue because of the potential of its young players. Desnoyers, Daniil But, Logan Cooley, and Iginla all have a high ceiling, with some of those players having higher ceilings than others.
Iginla's 2025-26 season shows Utah's strong future potential. And quite honestly, it has been a great idea by the front office to keep someone like Iginla in Utah. The next superstar in the NHL could be coming to Utah soon...
