The Utah Mammoth are being heavily involved with some trade rumors involving the Philadeplhia Flyers.
The Fylers are 0-5-3, and some star players aren't helping. But despite how nice it would be to have Travis Koncechny or even Owen Tippett, Utah must remember that it should not trade mega prospects.
Tij Iginla and Caleb Desnoyers should still be untouchable
Tij Iginla and Caleb Desnoyers are both future superstars and Koncechny isn't. The 29-year-old is a very good player, capable of scoring 30+ goals and adding a lot of assists as well.
But he isn't the kind of player I'd give a mega prospect for. Even Tippett, who is 27 and has a ton of speed, isn't worth giving up such great prospects for.
Now, Utah can still trade for those guys because of the talent that they have, but the Mammoth have plenty of assets that provide value.
This includes picks, wingers, and even veterans who can add significant value to the Flyers. The Flyers would trade these players because of their terrible season thus far and would be looking to jump-start their season, and Utah has some interesting names who could help them do that.
But one thing is clear: middle-aged stars shouldn't be on the table for mega prospects with very high ceilings. Those players aren't the kind of players that would be on the first line for Utah, while Iginla and Desnoyers could eventually blossom enter one of NHL's best players.
Potentially getting a great offensive player is always intriguing, but Utah shouldn't risk that much for those players if it were interested in those players.
