Another professional team in Utah? According to an ESPN reporter, an MLB team may be coming

The NHL's newest franchise, the Utah Mammoth, are just the second professional team to come to Utah. However, apparently, a new professional league may be trying to bring a new team in.

The NHL's newest franchise, the Utah Mammoth, are just the second professional team to come to Utah. However, apparently, a new professional league is trying to bring in a new team. The MLB, like the NHL, has grown in popularity and remains among the only two major sports to have only 32 teams. Now, however, the MLB may be looking to Nashville in the east and maybe Salt Lake City in the west. It would no doubt be very exciting to see a new professional team join the Mammoth and Utah Jazz.

ESPN MLB insider believes two cities are front-runners for two MLB teams

Jeff Passan, ESPN MLB insider, was recently asked by John Leone of the Daily Utah Chronicle about MLB expansion teams. According to Passan, Nashville, Tennessee, is apparently guaranteed to get a new MLB team: "I mean, Nashville is happening", said Passan. A Nashville MLB team would join the Tennessee Titans and Nashville Predators as the third major sport to enter the city, and technically the fourth in the state, with the Memphis Grizzlies as the NBA team in Tennessee. However, Passan also said: "(The) Question is who is going to be the West Coast team? I think Salt Lake actually... I think Salt Lake has got the best chance."

A new MLB team in Salt Lake would make sense. The West Coast has multiple teams in California, four to be exact, and a team in Seattle, Washington, and the recent move of the Athletics from Oakland, California, to Las Vegas, Nevada, adds another team in the West. Portland, Oregon, could make a lot of sense, considering it's larger than Salt Lake. But even then, Utah is building a unique fanbase that's only getting bigger with the addition of the Mammoth. Adding an MLB team would only strengthen Utah as a standalone fanbase that almost has every major team.

For the Mammoth, this is cool news, as it could lead to Utah becoming a bigger and better fanbase for the hockey team as well. Just having another team in Utah would be an awesome sight for Utah fans.
