The Utah Mammoth made a lot of noise in the offseason, with one move standing out. Utah traded for a superstar in Vincent Trocheck. The question remains: Can Trocheck bounce back? Trocheck has the ability to be the key for Utah. Utah wants to score more goals in the 2026-27 season and stack more assists. Trocheck can help in both categories. And even then, Trocheck adds significant depth and talent to the lineup.
Can Trocheck regain his offensive talent in Utah?
It should be noted that Trocheck didn't just flatline this past season offensively. However, Trocheck put up only 53 points with 16 goals and 37 assists. Even with missing 15 games, Trocheck, along with the whole New York Rangers team, struggled. The Mammoth really would like to unlock the 20-goal, 50-assist version of Trocheck. The 33-year-old, who played for the Rangers, Carolina Hurricanes, and Florida Panthers, put up impressive numbers throughout his career. Expecting 70+ points is probably unreasonable, but Trocheck can still stack assists and goals with the talent Utah has. Interestingly, Utah plans to play Trocheck on the wing, which could lead to more goals.
Really, Utah just wants Trocheck to do what he has always done. Be an effective offensive player while being good at everything from the penalty kill to goal scoring. By trading for Trocheck, the Mammoth proved they want to compete for it all. Trocheck struggled last season, but can be the X-factor that the Mammoth are looking for. The Mammoth has a lot of youth and talent, so adding experience and talent is a very good thing. A great version of Trocheck can definitely be what the Mammoth are looking for.
