As trades continue to flow throughout the NHL, it seems like the Dallas Stars may very well seek to trade a superstar talent. This wouldn't be the first time that the Stars have been involved in such a large deal, and it wouldn't be a horrible idea to get a big return for the superstar who is an upcoming restricted free agent. If the Stars cannot agree on a deal with Jason Robertson, they may have no choice but to trade him, and the Utah Mammoth are one team that could afford him.
Dallas superstar could be a franchise-altering kind of player
Robertson has been nothing short of fantastic in his career with the Stars. This season, Robertson scored 45 goals and added 51 assists, tallying 96 points. Robertson has also had two more 40-goal seasons, including a 46-goal, 109-point season in 2022-23. Robertson has 213 goals in his career, along with 277 assists (490 points). Simply put, Robertson has been an amazing offensive force in his career with the Stars, and the soon-to-be 27-year-old will only continue to do amazing things.
Robertson could be a franchise-altering kind of player, a kind of player that could take a team into the postseason. The Stars aren't certain to trade their superstar player, but it's increasingly likely, given that he's soon to become a restricted free agent and the Stars haven't signed him to an extension. For whatever team that ends up having Robertson as their star, that team will be very happy with their offense, that is for sure.
Could the Mammoth fit?
To trade for a relatively young superstar, a team must have a ton of youth and assets. A lot of teams have this, but not many are willing to risk much. The Mammoth would have to give up a lot to get Robertson, but they can definitely afford him. The Mammoth don't really need a winger, as the team is probably more interested in other things. Firstly, Utah is in need of a good backup goalie, or maybe even a good starter, depending on what the front office wants the most.
In addition, the team may also be looking for minor improvements, both defensively and offensively, rather than trading for a big superstar like Robertson. The Mammoth could fit very well with Robertson, as the team will look for more offense in the 2025-26 season, but with the youth and talent they have, Utah is expecting an offensive explosion from multiple players in the 2026-27 season. At the very least, a Robertson trade is going to be a massive one, and certain teams, like the Mammoth, are the only ones that can afford him. If the Stars are to trade Robertson, he will be very expensive.
