The Utah Mammoth recently suffered a rather unpleasant 4-1 loss last night to open preseason.
Utah didn't play the majority of its stars, including Clayton Keller, Nick Schmaltz, Logan Cooley, and more. But new acquisition Vincent Trocheck did play.

Trocheck won six of the seven faceoffs he played in for Utah. Trocheck helped create offense for the Mammoth despite the loss.
One of the main reasons Utah acquired the 33-year-old superstar was his ability to play effectively in many facets of the game. This includes the faceoff circle.
Trocheck is a smart player with speed, good defense, and the ability to be a capable goal scorer as well. In 67 games in the 2025-26 season, Trocheck scored 16 goals and added 37 assists. Trocheck fell short of his expectations with the New York Rangers, but he has a lot of talent in Utah around him.
Trocheck is to play on the right wing on the top line with superstar Clayton Keller and the talented center Schmaltz - both of which can score 30+ goals and themselves are great at adding assists. Even then, if Utah wants to shuffle around their lines, Trocheck might also find himself with players like Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther.
Guenther and Cooley both looked poised to score 30+ goals in 2026-27 with relative ease. There is clearly no shortage of offensive talent around Trocheck.
Trocheck was also added to add veteran presence, along with New York Islanders former captain Anders Lee, 36. Both are veterans who can teach younger guys, including mega prospects like Tij Iginla and Caleb Desnoyers,.
Sometimes, teams just need veterans who add leadership. Plus, Trocheck is a great offensive player, so Utah adds experience without sacrificing talent. Seeing Trocheck thrive in faceoffs was certainly one of the nicest things Utah saw on Sunday night.
