The Utah Mammoth showed how exciting they can be on Saturday night, with an overtime comeback win.

The Mammoth got some great individual efforts, but one player answered the call when the Mammoth needed him most: Dmitri Simashev.

Is there more to come from Simashev?

Simashev had just two points, both from assists, coming into last night's game. Through 39 games, the former sixth pick overall from the 2023 NHL draft hadn't even scored a goal yet.

The defenseman didn't play with the confidence the Mammoth had hoped for in his limited action so far. But then, he finally broke out last night. The Mammoth had a delayed penalty and were down 4-3 hoping to tie the game.

Simashev got a great chance and fired an absolute missile into the back of the net in his first NHL game. The game remained tied through three periods, guaranteeing the Mammoth one point at least.

Goalie Karel Vejmelka made a save on a breakaway and kept the Mammoth in the game for now. Then, center Barrett Hayton and Simashev developed a nice offensive chance. Hayton executed a perfect pass as Simashev delivered the game winner.

That was quite the ending to the night for Utah. Simashev had struggled to create much offense in his career thus far. Hopefully this game can give him a substandial amount of confidence moving forward.

He seems like a defenseman with great shooting who could be a problem offensively. Utah still needs some good defense from him, but what a night for Simashev.
