After trading away a star, the Utah Mammoth were rumored to be going after many stars. Now, Utah is pretty much done with its offseason, and one superstar who was a potential great fit is apparently between two teams. Kirill Marchenko, 25, was one superstar Utah could've afforded but didn't trade for. Now, Marchenko is either a Montreal Canadien or somewhere else.
Columbus Blue Jackets superstar nearing trade
The Columbus Blue Jackets pretty much lack good goal scoring and are trying to fix that by trading away some of their star players. One huge name is off the market, but the team is now actively nearing a trade of Marchenko. The 25-year-old is coming off a 27-goal, 40-assist season, as he has become a desirable target for many teams. At first, many teams knocked, including the Canadiens and Mammoth. However, it is undeniable that Marchenko would've cost a lot more than what the Mammoth got. The superstar is both young and very talented, and there's no telling how well he'll do in the future for whoever he plays for.
Utah definitely could've afforded Marchenko, but in the long run, it isn't a bad idea to allow young players to develop into superstars. Right now, Marchenko is pretty much down to the Canadians and another team, but the Canadians are the clear frontrunners. Montreal, like Utah, is one of the youngest teams in the NHL and could use Marchenko's services. Both the Canadiens and the Mammoth had their seasons ended by the teams that reached the Stanley Cup, leaving a bitter taste in both teams' mouths. Now, the Canadians, like Utah did in June and early July, will seek to begin their climb to the top of the NHL. Marchenko may very well be apart of that climb.
