One question that has been asked is: "Who are you taking, Dylan Guenther or Cutter Gauthier?" It is hard to answer, given how good both players are, but when you factor in something else, it becomes easy. Thanks to a huge difference in salary and contracts, Guenther is easily the better player if you were to choose a player for a team. Both scored 40 goals plus last season, making them both very good.

The Mammoth actually got a steal for their top goal-scorer

After the 2023-24 season, which was the last in Arizona, the Utah Mammoth, now known as the Utah Hockey Club, decided to lock up Guenther long-term. Guenther, 23, scored 17 goals and added 18 in only 45 games that season, which led to an 8-year, $ 57.14 million extension. Guenther ultimately is being paid just over 7 million a season and has been worth every penny. Guenther, in the 2024-25 season, scored 27 goals and added 33 assists, immediately proving he can be a good offensive player for Utah. However, it was this last season that Guenther's deal proved to be a steal, as Guenther would score 40 goals and add 33 assists.

Guenther is going to be the top goal scorer for a team for years to come, as long as others don't explode offensively. With that being said, the time for negotiating is for Gauthier, who is seeking well over double the money AAV as Guenther. The Anaheim Ducks could actually wind up losing Gauthier, especially after they signed Leo Carlsson to a massive deal. Gauthier has the right to get a good contract as the 22-year-old scored 41 goals this season with the Ducks. However, the Mammoth is going to have to pay Guenther way less than whoever pays Gauthier. This extension will go down as among the best in Mammoth history.
