It is a well known fact that the Utah Mammoth have some really good prospects not in the NHL yet. However, one player is turning heads and making it look like he will be in the NHL soon- which may excite fans of the Mammoth. According to many, Tij Iginla is one the top 3 best prospects that haven't yet reached the NHL. However, it just seems like Iginla will reach the NHL sooner than later as the hype around Iginla has only grown.

Tij Iginla "laser-focused" as he seeks to reach the NHL

Iginla, who is the son of Hall of Famer Jeroma Iginla, has done nothing but produce so far in the WHL. Iginla, 19, was selected 6th overall in the 2024 NHL draft, and it turns out that it was one the best selections the Mammoth have made, at least for now. In the WHL this last season, Iginla scored 41 goals and added 49 assists in only 48 games. That is an insane 90 points in the WHL. Such production shoudln't be overlooked as the Mammoth could use some help offensively after getting some poor production from some of their younger players.

The 19-year-old isn't guaranteed to reach the NHL in the 2026-27 season, but the more fans see Iginla, the more it seems like he will reach the NHL. Iginla said: “I think I’m ready. I’m looking forward to a big summer of training & pushing it hard in the gym. I feel ready." According to Cole Bagley of KSL Sports, one the biggest takeaways of day one of dev camp was that Iginla "looked like a man on a mission", and that he was definitely seeking to reach the NHL.

Iginla should remain untouchable

With Iginla only climbing the list of top prospects, Iginla should be considered untouchable. The Mammoth have come up constantly in trade speculation, especially after the team cleared up $7.7 million from a trade of JJ Peterka. Such a trade also gave the Mammoth more assets. To put it simply, the Mammoth definitely seemed to be loading up for a big trade, and with all of the names on the market, it wouldn't make a lot of sense if Utah DIDN'T trade for a star player.

However, even with that being said, Iginla has showed that he can be a superstar, maybe even a star immediately. Utah could get destroyed in a trade if he does become a superstar and he is traded to someone else. The Mammoth have other assets, so Iginla shouldn't be traded, even if the player was Connor McDavid himself. Right now, it seems like the Mammoth definitely have an absolutely insane prospect on their hands.
