Utah Mammoth forward Jack McBain has agreed to a 5-year contract extension worth up to $21.25 million.

The 25-year-old McBain signing this extension tells us that he genuinely loves this team and wants to win with it. The extension is not just an investment in Utah; he’s investing and betting on himself. The organization wants McBain here and wants him to continue to be the ferocious and aggressive player that he is.

McBain is known for delivering hits and has an impeccable two-way game. His physical play is what made him an instant fan favorite in Utah. Aside from being a physical player, some of his other strengths are his leadership, work ethic, and versatility.

McBain is one of those fascinating young players who has an excellent feel for the game and a good hockey sense whenever he’s on the ice. Players who understand their role in the team can help bring the team more success and become an asset rather than a liability.

McBain has earned the respect of his teammates, fans, and the front office

Utah continues to impress us with its moves during the offseason. We are seeing a Utah team that could establish a reputation next season as one of the most physical teams in the league for the right reasons.

Teams need great scoring and players who bring physical play to compete and reach a certain level.

Although this deal is excellent for both parties, we wonder if it will prevent Utah from making further signings in the future.

When there’s a contract extension, you must think about the salary cap and how it can impact the team. We hope that’s not the case for the Mammoth, but everything can pay off if Utah can start winning sooner rather than later.

It’s hard to win in any sport, and the business of sports can be brutal. Hopefully, McBain’s contract extension will be one of the key reasons Utah competes for the ultimate prize.

In the meantime, everyone is satisfied that McBain is returning to Salt Lake City. It’s a good contract. Bill Armstrong is showing tremendous resilience and wants to win now. Durability and consistency will be a factor for the upcoming season.

McBain made his hockey debut in April 2022. He continues to grow, develop, and mature. In the 2024-25 season, he posted 13 goals and 14 assists for 27 points in 82 games.
