JJ Peterka is already impressing in Boston with beautiful goal

JJ Peterka's relationship with the Utah Mammoth didn't last long. Utah traded for Peterka in 2025 as they sought a future superstar.

However, Peterka put up an underwhelming 2025-26 season, leading to Utah quickly trading him away to the Boston Bruins.

Will Utah regret their quick trade of Peterka?

The 24-year-old German national broke out with the Buffalo Sabres, scoring 27 goals and adding 41 assists in the 2024-25 season. The season prior, he scored 28 goals but only added 22 assists.

However, in Utah, Peterka didn't quite look the same. He scored only 25 goals and added only 22 assists. This led Utah to quickly trade away the $ 7.7 million contract to Boston for two first round picks.

Utah's abundance of wingers and Peterka's disappointing season led Utah to gather more assets. They quickly used those assets to trade for Sebastian Cossa.

However, just one game into the 2026-27 season for the Bruins, Peterka delivered a beautiful goal:

The Bruins and New York Rangers were deadlocked at zero for the majority of the game before Fraser Minten made it 1-0 with little time to go. Quickly, however, Peterka made it 2-0 with that goal. The Bruins added one empty-net goal to win the game 3-0 and make that game look much prettier than it actually was.

It's only been one game, but Peterka has shown off some of his potential quickly. The good news, though, is that if Cossa does well, Utah definitely won't regret trading for Peterka.

At least, Boston is extremely happy to get itself another capable goal scorer.
