In the final preseason game, the Utah Mammoth beat the Colorado Avalanche 2-0. Utah looked great in four games, going 2-1-1 with wins over the Los Angeles Kings and the Avs.
Karel Vejmelka showed off in this game, looking great as he looks to be even better in 2026-27.
Utah takes Colorado down in the final game of the preseason in an impressive way
The Mammoth got off to a fast start on Saturday, as in the first period, center Jack McBain quickly made things 1-0 with a nice goal as he was assisted by defenseman Nate Schmidt and center Barrett Hayton.
Then, on a power play in the first period, Logan Cooley scored his first and only goal of the preseason (played in limited action), assisted by Clayton Keller and Dylan Guenther. Impressively, at least for Vejmelka, that was all in terms of scoring.
The Starting goaltender, Vejmelka, or "Veggie," saved all 25 shots he faced. The Avalanche, similiar to Utah a couple of nights ago against the Vegas Golden Knights, didn't send out very many starters at all. As a result, the clearly outmatched Avs didn't create much offensive success.
This doesn't really take anything away from Vejmelka, however. The way he played when not playing all offseason was quite impressive regardless of anything.
Most likely, come October 1st, Vejmelka will be in the net as the Mammoth host the Chicago Blackhawks to open a thrilling 2026-27 season.
