The Utah Mammoth have continued their weird 2026-27 season pattern of win, lose, win, lose, etc. Utah was unable to string two wins together against the Montreal Canadiens last night despite a hat trick from Logan Cooley.
The Mammoth were able to get a point, though, which is nice.
The Canadiens win in overtime against Utah
Early in the first period, the red-hot Cooley scored a goal to make it 1-0 quickly. Only eight minutes later, Cooley scored another goal on a power play, giving Utah an early 2-0 advantage.
The game's momentum started to shift, though, when Nick Suzuki scored to make it 2-1 in the first period. The Canadiens seemed to have all the momentum with another goal to knot things up at 2-2 heading into the second period.
The second period was pretty quiet, but the Mammoth got another power play. Cooley converted it, scoring his third goal of the night and his second hat trick in four games.
With his hat trick tonight, Logan Cooley (228 GP) became the fastest active player to record five career hat tricks, besting Alex Ovechkin (230 GP).

Unfortunately for Utah, Montreal tied the game at 3-3. Then, on the power play again, Cooley set up Nick Schmaltz, who scored his ninth goal of the season to give the Mammoth a 4-3 lead.
Again, the Canadiens tied the game, this time at 4-4, to drag the Mammoth into OT. Cole Caufield was able to get a prime opportunity, and he buried the puck into the back of the net, giving the Canadiens a 5-4 win in OT.
Next, the Mammoth face the Ottawa Senators on the road on Saturday night.
