The Utah Mammoth hoped to open the 2026-27 season in a strong way, which is exactly what they did.

The Mammoth absolutely crushed the Chicago Blackhawks 6-0 to begin the 2026-27 season.

Utah opens the season very strongly

The Mammoth pretty much started dominating the Blackhawks immediately. The Blackhawks manaed to keep the Mammoth off the board for the majority of the first period.

That was until Dylan Guenther scored Utah's first goal of the season on a power play for the third straight season.

Utah didn't take long to pile on; just a minute later, winger Michael Carcone made it 2-0. In the second period, the Mammoth still didn't slow down. Center Nick Schmaltz, who scored 33 goals in the 2025-26 season, scored a goal that made it 3-0.

Then, on a shot from defenseman Andrew Peeke that the new addition, Anders Lee, tipped in, Utah started to blow the Hawks out of the water. On another power play, Guenther scored again on a beautiful pass from superstar winger Clayton Keller.

Utah and Chicago didn't score again until young winger Daniil But scored another goal to make it 6-0. Starting goalie Karel Vejmelka saved 15 of 15 shots faced.

Utah did well at keeping the puck out of the Blackhawks and winning faceoffs as well. Utah more than doubled the Hawks in shots on goal and also won 72.2% of the faceoffs.

Utah also compiled 42 hits, to Chicago's 12. Almost quadruple the hits is pretty insane. Head coach Andre Tourigny could hardly have dreamed of a better start to the season for the Mammoth.

Simply put, the Hawks couldn't contain the Mammoth offense, and they were physically dominated and unable to create enough offense. Chicago is now 0-2-0 after also taking a 5-2 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights to open its 2026-27 season.

Utah is now 1-0-0 and will visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, looking to continue its very hot start.
