The Utah Mammoth came in and out of draft weekend as a better team, thanks to a flurry of moves made by the front office that addressed some pretty big needs. However, Utah most certainly isn't done yet, as on Monday, the team made more moves that were both interesting and good. A trade, and a re-signing may have Mammoth fans excited with how the offseason is going so far.

Mammoth trade defenseman Szuber to Canadians for Winger Roy

In an interesting move, the Mammoth traded defenseman Maksymilian Szuber to the Montreal Canadians in return for right-winger Joshua Roy. Both have some promising traits, with the 23-year-old Szuber showing flashes of offensive brilliance while playing for the Tucson Roadrunners this last season (11 goals and 16 assists). Meanwhile, Roy has showed some good potential in both the NHL and AHL. In the AHL this last season, Roy scored 23 goals and added 22 assists in 57 games (45 points). Roy played total of three NHL games in the 2025-26 season, with 0 points. However, Roy has played a total 38 games in the NHL, scoring 6 goals and adding 5 assists.

Szuber, meanwhile, has only one NHL game under his belt, as he debuted in the 2023-24 season with the Arizona Coyotes. Roy is only 22 years old and has some potential that is quite interesting, especially since he was played in the NHL before. The trade isn't the most significant in the world, but the Mammoth saw something they liked from Roy- which is definitely pretty interesting.

Mammoth re-sign fan favorite Yamamoto

One up and coming free agent from the Mammoth was gonna be Kailer Yamamoto. However, Utah re-signed the exciting forward. Yamamoto became more important in the second half of last season, as he scored 13 goals and and added 10 assists in 59 games. Yamamoto also scored a couple of goals and tallied a total of five points against the Vegas Golden Knights in the 4-2 series loss in the first round of the Stanly Cup Playoffs. Yamamoto overall added great depth and talent to a team that really appreciated it a lot.

Yamamoto isn't the biggest signing in the world either, but the Mammoth made sure not to let a potential star, who at the very least adds some very nice depth, to get away. The deal was also a low-risk, high-reward deal, with it being only a 2-year, $3.5M deal. This probably means that the 27-year-old seeks to prove himself over the next two seasons to earn a larger deal with more money. For now though, the deal stands as a win for the Mammoth.

The front office so far this offseason has been able to really do well, as the it has addressed some big issues, including the backup goalie issue, a potential salary cap issue by trading away JJ Peterka, and most recently re-signing the most valuable player they had that was about to become an unrestricted free agent. Ultimately, for Mammoth fans, there is absolutely nothing to complain about so far with how the team has managed itself so far.
