The goalie who can change Utah in 2026-27 is none other than mega prospect... Sebastian Cossa
Cossa was traded to Utah on June 27th, 2026, from the Detroit Red Wings. Utah has high hopes for the prospect with their lack of a good backup goalie in the 2025-26 season.

Cossa, from Hamilton, Ontario, was drafted 15th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft by Detroit. The soon-to-be 24-year-old was kept in the AHL by the Red Wings due to their lack. Well, of a lack of a need for another goalie.
In the 2025-26 season in the AHL, Cossa posted a 26-8-4 record with a .915 SV% and five shutouts. In his one NHL appearance, which came in 2024-25, Cossa won a 6-5 SO with 12 saves on 14 shots on goal.
Cossa is 6'6" and was a star in the WHL before being drafted. With the Mammoth's lack of a good backup goalie and the experience that Cossa gained in the AHL, it seems like Cossa will pretty easily get the goalie No. 2 role behind Karel Vejmelka.
The hope is probably that Cossa will become a star and take the starting job... Eventually. If Vejmelka struggles at all in the 2026-27 season, then Cossa will be even more important.
Down the road, injuries, slumps, and anything else could throw Utah an unexpected curveball. Cossa could be the response to an unpleasant surprise. At the least, though, Mammoth fans should see Cossa showcased soon. And that will be very exciting.
