As the first day of free agency begins, the Utah Mammoth have been relatively quiet, until now, at least. The Mammoth have decided to re-sign a useful depth center after a couple of seasons in Utah. This is nothing huge by any means, but it could be the start of something for Utah. And perhaps the team has been quiet because it seeks to trade for someone big, which would make a lot of sense.

Kevin Stenlund re-signed

Kevin Stenlund is pretty much important for two things: depth, and penalty killing. Stenlund most certainly the biggest center for Utah, but Stenlund in his first season in Utah, which of course was 2024-25, actually scored 14 goals and added 14 assists for a total of 28 points. This season, though, Stenlund scored only 4 goals and added 14 assists for just 18 points. Stenlund also had -9 +/- in the 2025-26 season. Stenlund remains to be an important depth piece who can at times be a factor for victories. Ultimately, the Mammoth are signing Stenlund to a one-year, $2.75M deal, which isn't too expensive at all. For now, the Mammoth are trying to do the little things to win games, which is a recipe for success.

There is definitely more to come in the next couple of days, but for now, the Mammoth are keeping some salary room and trying to do what they must to win games. The front office in the last week has been pretty masterful, and this deal seems to be another good one for the Mammoth. Hopefully, there are some big moves to come to improve the Mammoth, but at the very least, the front office really hasn't given anyone much to complain about.
