In the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Mammoth, had fans swap Vegas Golden Knight jerseys for Mammoth jerseys. The Mammoth and VGK revealed what Utah did with those jerseys that were turned in. This was definitely one of the most interesting things that has happened to the Mammoth.
Mammoth donate jerseys to the Vegas Golden Knight Foundation
The Mammoth, trying to grow their fanbase, decided to allow fans to trade in VGK jerseys for Utah jerseys. The state of Utah was a big market for the Golden Knights, as of course, Utah was previously the Arizona Coyotes. It definitely made sense to do such a move as the Mammoth try to form a big fanbase and convert some VGK fans to Mammoth fans. A lot of people ended up showing up as the Mammoth tried to make a prime playoff atmosphere. The Mammoth did succeed in winning two games of of the first three in the series before losing three straight and the series itself.
However, Mammoth fans definitely won't forget what their owner did to get more fans. Not only did Smith give VGK jerseys to the Mammoth and earn some more respect in the Utah fanbase, but he also donated the jerseys that were swapped in. The HELP of Southern Nevada thanked both the Utah Mammoth and the Vegas Golden Knights Foundation for donating jerseys and making many happy Golden Knights fans. Ultimately, it is very nice of Smith and the Mammoth to show respect for the VGK still. The Golden Knights used to have Utah as a market for their team, and it is nice for Utah to make a nice transition to the new team in the area.
Right now, the Mammoth are still growing their fanbase, and moves like this definitely help that. The Mammoth fanbase will only grow as Utah becomes a prime hockey market. This donation was definitely a nice move by Utah, and such things are what make hockey a great sport.
