The Winnipeg Jets are being pushed into a corner concerning their situation with Connor Hellebuyck.
The star goalie has already demanded a trade, but now, it looks like Hellebuyck won't even show up for training camp. This could mean that the Jets have to trade Hellebuyck away sooner rather than later.
Could Utah steal Hellebuyck for a cheap price?
The Mammoth have supposedly been active in their search for star power before the season begins. One player who might make the most sense, especially since Utah has been rumored to have talked with Winnipeg about him, is Hellebuyck.
According to TSN's Darren Dreger, it isn't likely that Hellebuyck will report for the Jets' training camp. The offers for Hellebuyck have been bad so far, leading to the Jets holding onto Hellebuyck for more time than they'd like.
This report clearly shows that no team has met the Jets' demands for Hellebuyck, including Utah. However, if the situation worsens and Hellebuyck doesn't show up to training camp, then what can Winnipeg do?
Hellebuyck may, in the end, have to return to Winnipeg and suit up for the Jets again, but Winnipeg might also have no choice but to accept a less-than-ideal offer. That said, the Mammoth may not have to offer much to get Hellebuyck.
The Jets would likely want a goalie plus a little more in return for the 33-year-old, which Utah can afford. The Mammoth should be careful not to give up a highly touted prospect plus even more, but if Utah wants to compete in 2026-27, they may really want Hellebuyck.
Other teams may try to get Hellebuyck for a lower price. However, few other teams have Utah's youth, not to mention a few goalies who could be valuable for the Jets in the near future.
For now, many dominoes have yet to fall, but if things continue as they are, a trade of Hellebuyck is imminent.
