Some players might be expected to score more than others, but several candidates could lead the Mammoth in goals... Whoever does has the ability to be one of the best players in the NHL.
Utah would love to be better in goal scoring, and they have several guys who can be critical in helping them do that:
C Nick Schmaltz
Nick Schmaltz surprised a lot of people last season with a 33-goal, 74-point season. The 31-year-old already was a reliable goal scorer, as he had consistently averaged 20+ goals.
Now, Schmaltz comes into this next season as the No. 1 center. Other names jump off the page as potential great goal scorers. However, with Schmaltz being as good as he was and working on the first line with Clayton Keller and Vincent Trocheck, there is a chance he can be even better.
Schmaltz dropping a 40+ goal season would be surprising, but a great season in 2026-27 isn't impossible.
C Logan Cooley
NHL EDGE stats highlighted many things about Utah, which included Logan Cooley and his speed.
The former 3rd overall selection of the 2022 NHL draft hasn't broken onto the scene as a superstar yet. But in only 54 games, Logan Cooley scored 24 goals and added 19 assists (on pace for 36 goals in 82 games).
Utah would love to see the center add more assists, but Cooley and Dylan Guenther created a very nice line. The line of Anders Lee, Cooley, and Guenther can stack goals and create a whole other dynamic for Utah's offense.
If Utah wants more points in 2026-27, Cooley will be critical. The 22-year-old has a high ceiling. If he can put it together, Utah has a reason to believe it can be good. Cooley is the kind of player who can change a team... A player who has the ceiling of a Leo Carlsson.
With the speed and talent to become a great player for Utah, Cooley has a chance to be the best offensive player on the team.
RW Dylan Guenther
Then there's a guy who is on a whole other level.
Guenther scored 40 goals last season and added 33 assists. The former 9th overall pick in the 2021 draft has improved every year with Utah. In 2022-23, Guenther scored 6 goals and 15 points in 33 games.
In 2023-24, Guenther scored 18 goals and 35 points in 45 games. In 2024-25, Guenther scored 27 goals and 60 points. And then, finally, he scored 40 goals and 73 points in 2025-26.
Perhaps thinking that Guenther can become a 50+ goal scorer this next season is unrealistic... But he has done nothing but improve and become a VERY good goal scorer.
Guenther will easily become the No. 1 target for Utah when they are looking for a goal. The 23-year-old is the heavy favorite to lead in goals, and for good reason. Guenther will be a great player for years to come and should provide a ton of value this next season for Utah.
