Jason Robertson, after much speculation and the Dallas Stars shopping him, has finally signed a one-year deal with the Stars. However, fans can't help but wonder if this sets up a sweepstakes for a superstar. If Robertson isn't extended between now and the end of the 2026-27 season, Robertson will become a UFA. It is a possibility that teams will seek to pay Robertson a ton of money. Can the Utah Mammoth attempt to go after him?
Next offseason could be centered around Robertson
Robertson is one of the best offensive players in the NHL, and the 27-year-old left-winger will definitely be a hot commodity on the FA market if he chooses not to sign an extension in Dallas. Robertson consistently scores over 40 goals and 80 points, with the 2025-26 season being a really good one for Robertson. Robertson scored 45 goals and added 51 assists for 96 points. Simply put, Robertson is one of the best and consistent goal scorers in the NHL while being able to stack assists as well. Many teams, including possibly the Utah Mammoth may be interested in Robertson.
Utah may not be interested in Robertson, though, considering their youth and salary situation. Some teams, including the Philadelphia Flyers, may be able to pay for such a salary. The Mammoth is definitely not in a great salary situation, but making a few moves can improve it. The good news is that the NHL salary cap has increased over the last two seasons, meaning Utah might be able to afford a superstar in the future. For now, it is just a lot of speculation as teams will definitely be interested in a player like Robertson. Robertson himself is seeking quite a contract, and one can only wonder whether a team like Utah can afford it.
