The Utah Mammoth needed a big bounce back game after getting steamrolled by the Boston Bruins 6-1 on Thursday night.

Thankfully, the Mammoth got the bounce back game they needed with an impressive performance on Saturday.

Utah defeats the Sabres 4-1

Utah didn't get off to a great start last night, as on a power play, Utah allowed a goal to superstar Tage Thompson to go down 1-0 early.

However, Kailer Yamamoto pretty quickly responded to make things 1-1 with his first goal of the season. The first period featured strong goaltending, and heading into the first intermission, the game remained tied 1-1.

Nick Schmaltz scored his league-leading (technically tied with Kyle Connor, Evan Bouchard, and Kirill Kaprizov) sixth goal on a power play to give Utah the lead. Logan Cooley (fifth assist) and Clayton Keller (seventh assist) assisted Schmaltz.

Just a few minutes later in the second period, the Mammoth extended their lead with Anders Lee's second goal of the season. The Mammoth entered the third period with a 3-1 lead and continued to shut down the Sabre offense.

Only a minute and forty-five seconds into the third period, defenseman John Marino scored his first goal of the season to put things largely out of reach. Utah scored two power-play goals on five opportunities.

Interestingly, Utah has converted 10 of 25 chances on the power play while the Sabres have converted one of 18 chances, with their first power play goal coming against Utah.

Next, the Mammoth hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday night. Utah won three of its five road games. Now, the Mammoth return home looking to take down the Leafs.
