The Utah Mammoth for the first time this season looked completely out of synce.
On Thursday night, the Mammoth were looking to continue their solid start to the season and win their second game in a row. However, for a combination of reasons, Utah fell behind and lost before the second period even began.
Utah loses in frustrating fashion
Last night couldn't have been worse for Utah. Casey Mittelstadt made it 1-0 10 minutes into the first period. Just a few minutes later, on a power play, David Pastrnak made it 2-0 with a nice goal of his own.
The Mammoth felt they lacked the defense they needed. Sebastian Cossa was making just his second start in Utah, and the defensemen were making things way too easy for the Bruins.
Mason Lohrei scored another goal in the first period, making it 3-0 and once again exposing Utah's defensive lapses. This led to Cossa being pulled for Karel Vejmelka.
Unfortunately, Vejmelka didn't do well either as the Bruins piled on three more goals in the second period.

Utah got a goal from Jack McBain to avoid a shutout, but it felt like the only good thing that happened all night. The Mammoth allowed only 22 shots on goal, but somehow managed to allow six goals.
Worse, Utah totaled 37 shots on goal and won 53.6% of the faceoffs. Outshooting your opponent by 15 and winning in some key aspects of the game is certainly a good thing.
But of course, Utah still lost by five goals. To put it mildly, Utah needs a major bounce-back game.
The Mammoth conclude their five-game road trip tomorrow night against the Buffalo Sabres.
