The Mammoth impress in rookie showcase with a 3-0 win over the Golden Knights

And so it begins. The Utah Mammoth are officially back in action, with the Mammoth taking on the Vegas Golden Knights in a rookie showcase on Saturday.

Utah lost to the VGK 4-2 in the first round of the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs, with the VGK eventually reaching the Stanley Cup (lost to the Carolina Hurricanes).

Ultimately, the Mammoth impressed with a 3-0 shutout that really showed their talented young players.

Dmitri Simashev and Daniil But impress in a shutout win

The captain of the rookie showcase team, Dmitri Simashev, and the Mammoth quickly went up 3-0 in the first period.

Utah went a perfect 3-for-3 on the power play, with a goal scored by Miko Matikka to start things off for Utah. Then, during the same four-minute power play, Daniil But slipped past the Golden Knights' defense and scored an impressive goal.

Later in the period, on another man advantage, Utah added their final goal with a nice wrist shot from distance by Artem Duda. From then on, the game stayed even (5-on-5), but VGK never got a strong offensive push. Utah won 3-0 with a nice game from goalie prospect Michael Hrabal.

Hrabal wasn't tested much by Vegas, but the towering goalie (6'6") proved he could have an impact at some point this next season.

The standouts of this game included But, who looked like the best player on the ice and looked confident, and Simashev, who was a hassle to deal with for the largely ineffective VGK offense.

The defenseman also added one assist. Utah probably has big plans for Simashev and But, so it's nice to see those guys thrive in game one of the rookie showcase.

Next, the young Mammoth take on the San Jose Sharks, who just defeated the Los Angeles 7-1.
