The Mammoth lose 5-3 to Kraken in another bad goalie performance

The Mammoth haven't looked too good in one area over the past 11 games this season.

The Mammoth were unable to string together back-to-back wins on Thursday night.

Utah lost to the Seattle Kraken 5-3 in yet another concerning performance from both Karel Vejmelka and the Mammoth defense.

Utah loses 5-3 in a hard fought battle

Utah had no lack of offense last night as they totaled 36 shots on goal and were able to generate plenty of chances. Unfortunately, however, the Kraken offense proved to be too powerful.

Seattle scored in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. A nice assist from Kailer Yamamoto set up a nice goal for Vincent Trocheck to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period.

Mattty Beniers scored a power-play goal as the Mammoth continued to play terrible defense on the penalty kill. Seattle scored another goal early in the second period to take a 3-1 lead, again on the power play (*sigh*).

Utah got a power-play goal from Logan Cooley early in the third period, then another from Cooley to tie the game 3-3. Mackie Samoskevich scored a goal for Seattle late in the third to recapture the lead for the Kraken.

Seattle managed to hold off Utah and got an empty-net goal to seal things at 5-3. This game felt like another ugly performance from Vejmelka and another lackluster performance from the defenseman corps.

The Mammoth are still at the top of the Central Division, but they are not playing their best hockey right now. The offense has been extremely powerful, but the defense and goalie play has been ugly.

Overall, Utah must improve, and soon. The Mammoth hosts the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night looking to bounce back.
