The Utah Mammoth made several moves on Tuesday.
Utah is 7-3-0 thus far and faces the Seattle Kraken next Thursday night. The Mammoth are dealing with some injuries after the first 10 games.
The Mammoth recall Duda, place Carcone on IR
Michael Carcone has just one goal and one assist in five games in 2026-27 and has suffered an upper-body injury.
Unfortunately, Carcone's status remains unknown for now, but he is on the injury report and could miss significant time. As a result, Utah is recalling a rookie who is yet to have made his debut.
Defenseman Artem Duda of Moscow, Russia, was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the second round of the 2022 NHL draft. The 22-year-old had a major impact for the Mammoth in preseason and also looked great in the rookie showcase prior to the season.
Duda solidified his path to the NHL sooner rather than later with his performance at the rookie showcase.
With star defenseman John Marino listed as day-to-day and a couple of injuries in the defense corps, the need for another defenseman to help the team was clear.
The Mammoth will want to see Marino and Carcone back healthy soon, but it will no doubt be captivating to see how well Duda can perform.
It was clear from the showcase that Duda can be a problem both defensively and offensively. I doubt he can score any goals immediately, but you never know.
The Mammoth face the Kraken next and are hoping to look better defensively. Despite leading the Central Division, the defense and goalies have had some abysmal performances. It will be fun to see if Duda can help the defense avoid ugly performances immediately.
