The Utah Mammoth needed to bounce back in a big way against the Pittsburgh Penguins. And that they did.
The Mammoth got quite the performance from Logan Cooley and were able to come away with a 4-3 win in overtime.
The Mammoth win in overtime against the Penguins
The Mammoth got off to a fast start as Cooley scored his fifth goal of the season, unassisted, to give the Mammoth an early 1-0 lead. Goalie Sebastian Cossa had himself a pretty good night and was able to keep the Penguins off the board for the first period.
Late in the first period, Cooley found the back of the net as Mammoth took a 2-0 lead into the second period. It was a pretty uneventful period, but the Penguins were able to get on the board with a goal from Erik Karlsson to make the score 2-1 heading into the third period.
The Mammoth offense was doing well; in the third period, the Penguins scored a shorthanded goal to tie the game at 2-2. With 25 seconds left, Ben Kindel scored the go-ahead goal for the Penguins. The game felt over. However, Cooley achieved a hat trick with his third goal of the night with a second remaining.
Utah tied the game at 3-3. Cooley had himself a night in his return to his hometown of Pittsburgh. In overtime, Cossa made a good save to keep the game going. For the second time in the last week, Barrett Hayton and Mikhail Sergachev led a good rush.
Hayton missed, but Sergachev finished with a goal. The Mammoth won behind a mammoth performance from Cooley. Sergachev said after the game: "He's one of our top players. He's supposed to be doing that...
He's going to show everyone what kind of player he is...he does everything right. When he puts it all together, he's what he is tonight."

The Mammoth face the Flyers on Sunday next.
