As we enter August, the vast majority of offseason moves have already taken place. There is a slight chance of more to come; however, most of these teams' off-seasons have concluded. The question is, which team had the best offseason?
3. New York Rangers
The New York Rangers are definitely disappointed with their 2025-26 season. However, they've immediately tried to right the ship with the offseason that they have had. Although they traded away a superstar in Vincent Trocheck to the Utah Mammoth, the Rangers still added a more dangerous offensive force in Pavel Dorofeyev. Dorofeyev is only 25 and has scored 72 goals in his last two seasons, with 37 in the 25-26 season. Not to mention, the return for Trocheck wasn't horrible, giving New York fans a reason to believe their offseason was great. The Rangers know one thing: they can get back into the postseason pretty easily by putting things together. This offseason was just perfect since New York didn't exactly need to overhaul its whole team.
2. Washington Capitals
The Washington Capitals definitely needed to do something different with their older core and their recent struggles. That's why Washington added two potential 30+ goal scorers in Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch. The Capitals need a nice rebound from Kyrou after an ugly 2025-26 season, but they definitely improved. Not to mention, the Capitals managed to keep Alex Ovechkin for another season, which is a big W for a team that needs goal scorers. This offseason doesn't guarantee the Caps are suddenly Stanley Cup contenders, but they are definitely moving toward playoff form with their nice additions. Combine this with some youngsters that could break out and you could have a very dangerous team.
1. Utah Mammoth
The Mammoth didn't add as much as other teams. But they didn't need to at all. The team was already both young and dangerous. By adding Trocheck and Anders Lee, they added experience while not sacrificing talent. The team can also be confident in developing superstars like Logan Cooley and other youngsters, making it even more dangerous. The Mammoth also addressed their backup goalie issue by adding a potential superstar goalie in Sebastian Cossa. What makes this offseason so great is that they gained talent while losing none of their mega prospects, literally. Both Caleb Desnoyers and Tij Iginla are still in the Mammoth organization, making the Mammoth offseason a massive success.
To put it simply, this offseason can pay dividends years from now, given a prospect like Iginla's potential. To get a good offseason while not spending a lot of money and not giving up any mega prospect is one heck of an offseason, that's for sure.
