To begin the NHL offseason, not many teams have even sniffed the amount of success the Utah Mammoth have had. This includes free agency and the trade market, as Utah has been active and able to really improve through both. One of the biggest moves so far this offseason was the trade that saw Vincent Trocheck traded to Utah. This trade so far seems to be quite the move by Bill Armstrong.

New York Rangers: B-

The New York Rangers were apparently seeking to trade Trocheck for quite the return. For a while, it seemed like many teams just weren't even interested in the superstar, as New York was seeking to trade Trocheck for a massive return. The soon-to-be 33-year-old was a huge centerpiece for New York for the last few seasons, but the Rangers didn't see him as a part of their rebuild. The Rangers' return definitely fell short of what a lot of people expected, as the Rangers acquired 27-year-old defenseman Sean Durzi, a 2027 third-round pick, and Cole Beaudoin.

Durzi has the abilty to provide offense and plays with a lot of passion, but the highlight of the return is Beaudoin. Beaudoin has the potential to be a key centerpiece of New York's rebuild, as the 24th overall selection in the 2024 NHL draft has performed well since being drafted. The return most certainly isn't horrible, but it wasn't as good as many thought it would be.

Utah Mammoth: A+

The true grade of the trade cannot be revealed until the end of Trocheck's tenure in Utah. However, for now, Utah barely scraped its pool of prospects, as the team retains its top prospects. Not to mention, Utah still has salary cap room left, which is very good for the Mammoth. The Mammoth gets a player who can play with ferocity, a player who can be on the penalty kill and on the power play, and an equally dangerous player in 5-on-5. Trocheck isn't young by any means, but at the very least, Trocheck isn't expensive and will add valuable experience and leadership.

Given the team's youth and the need for leadership, a player like Trocheck makes a ton of sense. Trocheck is still a superstar and will add significant depth at center. Ultimately, the Mammoth didn't give up much at all and will probably improve significantly with such an addition. This move is potentially one of the best made in the offseason so far, if not the best.
