The Utah Mammoth made the postseason last year... But they want much more. Here are some bold predictions for Utah in the 2026-27 season:

The Mammoth Compete for the Central Division

The Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche, and Dallas Stars are definitely favored to compete for the Central Division. In fact, one might predict that those three are the only teams in the division that can win it.

However, the Mammoth can compete with those other teams. By adding Vincent Trocheck and Anders Lee, Utah added some pretty insane depth. That depth will let Utah compete with anyone. The defenseman corps looks good, the offense looks good, and even the goalie room isn't bad. It won't be easy to compete with those other teams, but the prediction is simple: Utah won't just be a wild card team next season.

Logan Cooley Becomes One of the NHL's Best Centers

In 54 games last season, Logan Cooley scored 24 goals and added 19 assists, which isn't very good at all. However, the 22-year-old played in just 54 games, meaning he was on pace for 36 goals if he had played in 82. Dylan Guenther and Logan Cooley were deadly together last season.

With Guenther, Lee, and Cooley likely being the second line, it wouldn't be surprising to see a massive emergence of Cooley. Can Cooley put together a complete 70- 80-point season will certainly be a big question, but there's a reason to believe that Cooley can be amazing.

These predictions aren't insane, but they are pretty bold. Utah will definitely struggle in the Central Division, while an elite Cooley would instantly make them a better team. Many teams have really good top lines, and a nice Guenther - Cooley - Lee line would be nice to see in the 2026-27 season.
