The Utah Mammoth decided to add several new faces to the organization. These new faces could be the difference between a Stanley Cup and another playoff elimination. The Mammoth knew they didn't need to completely overhaul their team, and by adding some key guys, they hope to compete for it all.
2. Sebastian Cossa
Sebastian Cossa, the new acquisition from the Detroit Red Wings, could be a huge difference-maker. The 23-year-old former first-round selection of the 2023 NHL draft was no longer really needed by the Red Wings, leading to a trade of their very good prospect. The Mammoth simply lacked a good backup goalie in the 2025-26 season, making this trade make a ton of sense. Even with very little experience under his belt, Cossa did well in the AHL and will immediately become the backup goalie in Utah. The Mammoth didn't just acquire Cossa to be a backup, though. Utah hopes to get a superstar version of Cossa in the future that can start and be a huge difference-maker.
Cossa will immediately be a big part of the equation of success for Utah in the 2026-27 season. Cossa himself could be the reason Utah has become a juggernaut.
1. Vincent Trocheck
In the 2025-26 season, Utah jumped from 21st in the NHL in goals per game in the 2024-25 season to 12th this past season. Even with that improvement, the Mammoth would still love to continue improving offensively. Among the things that need to improve is assists. Other than Clayton Keller, the Mammoth superstar players, Logan Cooley, Dylan Guenther, and Nick Schmaltz lacked assists. The Mammoth, however, added another offensive talent and superstar in Vincent Trocheck. Trocheck does not usually put up insane offensive numbers, as he is mainly a superstar who is good at everything. However, Trocheck can be an effective goal scorer who can stack assists, offering some nice depth and value to the Mammoth offense.
Utah will enter next season with a deep team that can be amazing offensively. Add prospect Tij Iginla, and things are even more interesting next season. Trocheck can be a huge key to the offense and can provide Utah with the missing piece of the puzzle to compete with other great teams.
