Before the Utah Mammoth traded for Vincent Trocheck, the Utah Mammoth seemed to be in the trade market for a superstar. Utah had traded away 23-year-old JJ Peterka to the Boston Bruins for two first-round picks, freeing up $ 7.7 million in AAV.
This led to two big moves on July 1st: first, they traded for Trocheck. Then, Utah went on to sign Anders Lee, adding two veterans to a young team. Now, some of the players that Utah was potentially looking to trade for are still there, interestingly. They are still likely to be traded, and perhaps Utah could even compete for one, but it's definitely strange to see some players still on the market with less than two months to go until the beginning of the 2026-27 season.
Dylan Larkin and Kirill Marchenko remain on the trade market
Dylan Larkin
There's no question that Utah no longer has any interest in Dylan Larkin. After Larkin requested a trade in early June, Utah was initially interested, but instead, they would trade for goalie Sebastian Cossa. Now, it seems like the Detroit Red Wings are asking for a high price, while Larkin has refused to expand his list of teams he would like to be traded to. Ultimately, the asking price for Larkin has been insane, as the Red Wings were rumored to have asked for Matt Boldy from the Minnesota Wild, which is insane.
When it comes to Larkin, well, he hasn't exactly expanded his list to include the Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights, and Minnesota Wild. The only realistic team there is the Wild, but an asking price of Boldy isn't close to being reasonable- at all. If the Wild were to trade for Larkin, it may be out of the Red Wings' desperation to get Larkin out of Detroit.
Kirill Marchenko
When it comes to Kirill Marchenko, the Columbus Blue Jackets don't need to trade him, but they seem motivated to do so anyway. Strangely, it was reported that the Montreal Canadiens put forward a borderline insane offer for the 25-year-old superstar, but that wasn't enough to acquire him. The Canadiens have aggressively pursued Marchenko, but nothing notable has happened between the two sides, as trade rumors were even shut down at one point.
Many other teams are rumored to be interested, even the Mammoth. But it should be noted that Utah would have to free up salary space for Marchenko, not to mention give up a considerable amount in return for him. Right now, there aren't many rumors about Marchenko and a trade anywhere, but at some point this offseason, Marchenko may be traded out of Columbus.
The Blue Jackets' lack of goal-scoring and offense may lead to the team trading away their best offensive player. Especially since Zack Werenski, who could've been traded, is staying in Columbus for now.
