As the summer moves forward and the Utah Mammoth fans, along with the rest of the NHL, patiently wait for the start of the season, how must hockey fans pass the time? I am a big baseball fan and noticed a trend around the league this weekend in anticipation of the Baseball Hall of Fame induction. All MLB teams are wearing a special HOF cap to honor the inductees and the history of the organization.
The hat features the MLB HOF logo on one side, accompanied by a throwback color and/or logo on the front. Some teams are almost unnoticeable, the New York Mets and Yankees, but most teams have an altered logo or an older color cap.
The induction ceremony is tomorrow in Cooperstown, NY, and the league is honoring the prestigious event all weekend. It made me wonder if the NHL could do a league-wide honoring of the HOF and the new inductees. Crazier jersey changes have happened in the league, so why not something special for the annual honor?
When it comes to a franchise like Utah, the league would not have much to change, as the franchise is in its infancy. Similar to the two seasons of reverse retro jerseys, the NHL used the history of hockey in Las Vegas to create the Vegas Golden Knights' reverse retro jerseys.
Although the Mammoth nickname was just created for this upcoming season, the road jersey is similar to last season's, with the UTAH down the front.
Utah has had a history in hockey, starting with the Salt Lake Golden Eagles, a member of the WHL. Eventually, the Golden Eagles transferred to the CHL and won a few titles in the 1980s. Of course, the Utah Grizzlies have been in Utah since 1995, and sadly comes to an end this season.
Merchandise sales run the show with all the gear produced by all the leagues, so this would be a good way to introduce every fanbase to something new and not just select teams.
