Last week, Detroit Red Wings superstar Dylan Larkin demanded a trade. Interestingly, Larkin also reportedly listed three teams that he was seeking to be traded to, the Florida Panthers, Minnesota Wild, and Vegas Golden Knights. What that clearly shows is that Larkin is looking to win. Even with that news though, Utah Mammoth are most certainly still in the mix for Larkin.
Utah Mammoth still in the mix
On a recent episode of the The Sheet Podcast, Daily Faceoff's Jeff Marek and ESPN's Greg Wyshynski mentioned that another team they had heard that was on Larkin's list of teams he would like to be traded to was Utah. Already, Detroit has asked Larkin to expand his trade list to more teams, which means the three teams that were reported to be on his list may not offer a good enough deal for Detroit.
The Red Wings may have to expect a team like the Mammoth or Anaheim Ducks, who are both young and have a lot of assets to be the best trade partners. The Panthers may not be able to offer something interesting in return for Larkin, especially with their older team. The Golden Knights and Minnesota Wild definitely have some interesting assets themselves, but not like a young Mammoth team.
Utah can offer the best deal
Among the teams that Larkin, who was a no-trade clause, has mentioned that he would like to be traded to, the Mammoth can offer the best deal. Utah would likely have to give up something big in return for Larkin, and it isn't even impossible for Sebastian Cossa to be included in a potential trade. A Larkin-Cossa trade would be insane, considering it would be extremely expensive, but it could give Utah all it wants and more.
The Mammoth have assets like Tij Iginla and Caleb Desnoyers, two huge prospects capable of being superstars in the future. Iginla is the son of Hall of Famer Jarome Iginla and was selected 6th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft. Iginla has done amazing things in the WHL so far. Desnoyers meanwhile is continuing to develop, but he was the 4th overall selection of the 2025 NHL Draft. Interestingly, both players are 19. One of those players could be enough to most certainly raise an eyebrow.
Ultimately, Larkin can still definitely be traded somewhere else. But Utah seems like it could be the best suitor for Larkin. A Cossa trade or Larkin trade seems like it is very much so a possibility for Utah.
