On July 1st, the Mammoth made two big splashes and set the team up for success. The splashes included superstar Vincent Trocheck and star Anders Lee, who both formally played in New York but for different teams. Interestingly, both revealed why they chose Utah, and both had one common answer: because Utah has a chance to compete.

Utah is "taking a step" as both veterans note

As both Trocheck and Lee were introduced as members of the Utah Mammoth, both players had some pretty interesting answers to why they chose Utah. Trocheck, who was traded there on July 1st, had the Mammoth on his no-trade list previously, but after this last season, Trocheck apparently removed it, as he was, of course, traded to Utah. Trocheck was clearly interested in Utah for one reason, as Trocheck said, "They're a very good young team. And I think for me, one of the biggest things is just going to a team that has a chance to win."

"Every year you go into training camp, your goal is to win the Stanley Cup. There are no moral victories." Trocheck played the Mammoth twice as a New York Ranger, losing both times 3-2 and once in overtime. Meanwhile, Anders Lee, former New York Islander captain, gave a similar reason for signing in Utah: "As an opposing player the last few years, you can tell every year, they're taking a step." Lee also added: "You can see on their run last year and in the playoffs that their window is coming and it's open. That was a big part of the fit for me, wanting to come to a team that has an opportunity to win." Simply put, both seem to really like the state of the young Mammoth team.

It is very true. The Mammoth have taken steps to get back into a team that can contend. By adding both Trocheck and Lee, the Mammoth adds valuable experience and leadership without sacrificing talent. Both players add onto a team that already has the talent and youth to compete with some other juggernauts. Simply put, the Mammoth are ready to become what they have hoped to become for many years: a TRUE contender.
