There are some very good divisions in the NHL, but one stands out as being the best. The Central Division is absolutely stacked, as the Utah Mammoth will seek to reach the postseason and even compete for the division title. The Mammoth don't know their fate with the rest of the division, but they do know one thing: the Central Division is bound to be the most exciting division in hockey.
The Central Division is full of Stanley Cup contenders
The Central Division will be incredibly hard for any team to win. First, there is the Colorado Avalanche, the best team in the NHL last season. The Avs were surprisingly swept by the Vegas Golden Knights in the playoffs last season, but that doesn't diminish their insane amount of talent. Next, there is the Dallas Stars, who were eliminated by another Central Division juggernaut, but the Stars, like the Avs, are full of talent. Who defeated the Stars? The Minnesota Wild did, and of course, they have an insane amount of talent. The Wild themselves were eliminated by the Avs, as many would've expected, but they will look to contend this next season. Meanwhile, the Utah Mammoth, who actually got close to defeating the VGK unlike Colorado, will try to join the ranks of the Stanley Cup contenders.
The young team was already good, but of course, not many teams have had the kind of offseason that Utah has had. By adding multiple stars to a stacked team, Utah becomes an instant contender for the division and Stanley Cup. The other four teams in the division are the Winnipeg Jets, St. Louis Blues, Nashville Predators, and Chicago Blackhawks. The Hawks are almost certainly out of contention, while the other teams are dark horses. The Blues almost went from being the worst team in the NHL to getting a Wild Card spot. St. Louis hasn't had a good offseason, but keep an eye on them.
The Jets disappointed last season after winning the division in 2024-25, but they do have a lot of talent that could come together and surprise people. The Preds also have a good amount of talent, but not as much as other teams. Again, keep an eye on Nashville. With all these teams, it will be very interesting to see what happens in the Central Division. Utah, despite significant improvement over the offseason, definitely isn't going to have an easy path to the postseason. Really, there is only one bad team in the division, the Blackhawks, who are still rebuilding. Perhaps others struggle, but the division is going to be a toss up.
If the Mammoth hope to contend for the Stanley Cup, finishing high in the division will definitely help them do that. Of course, the endings for the Mammoth, Wild, Avs, and Stars were all a bit disappointing, as it seemed like the Stanley Cup runner-up or winner would be one of those teams, especially the latter three. Coming into next season, though, expect one of these teams to be the Stanley Cup favorite.
