After a successful draft weekend, the Utah Mammoth seems to be gearing up for an even bigger offseason- by trading for a superstar. Utah has reportedly knocked on the door of multiple teams, but one might make more sense than most of the others. The Mammoth may have a significant interest in one player on the Columbus Blue Jackets, Kirill Marchenko. However, a different team has suddenly emerged as the top landing spot after a relatively crazy offer.
Montreal Canadians with an insane offer for Marchenko
Once it was mentioned that the Mammoth were knocking on the door for Marchenko, the Canadians were already knocking on the door as well. For whatever reason, Montreal is seeking to add the stick of Marchenko to a team that has a pretty powerful offense. Even more interestingly, though, according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Canadians have put a wild offer on the table. No details were shared about who or what was involved, but the offer was called "borderline insane". That definitely means that the Canadians are probably ahead in the sweepstakes to acquire the soon to be 25-year-old.
If Utah wants Marchenko, simply put, they shouldn't give up some really, really good youth and assets. If the Canadians are willing to give an arm and a leg for Marchenko, there is no way the Mammoth should even consider a deal similar to Montreal's. In terms of the trade market, there are much bigger fish in the pond, and if Utah wants to give up a lot for a player, it definitely shouldn't be Marchenko. Marchenko is good, but he isn't the greatest player in the NHL by any means. For now, Utah remains in the running for Marchenko, but the Canadians have taken the lead, and a lead that Utah shouldn't try to take.
