As the NHL draft has concluded, the Utah Mammoth are pretty content with the weekend they had. The Mammoth freed up 7.7 million by trading a star to the Boston Bruins, got an additional first-round pick, got a couple of steals in the draft, and found the goalie they were looking for. However, with all of the youth and assets the team has, Utah is probably looking to trade for someone pretty big. With that being said, the Mammoth have reportedly talked with a lot teams, but one team might be more interesting than others.

Kirill Marchenko may be the superstar the Mammoth are looking for

After the draft weekend, it would be pretty surprising to see the Mammoth not try to cash in by trading for a superstar. The team's current state isn't bad, and it's definitely a playoff team. However, with all of the youth and assets they have, it would make a lot of sense to become a juggernaut of a team- by trading for a guy like Kirill Marchenko. Marchenko isn't going to instantly turn any team upside down and put them into contention, but he is still quite an offensive force. The Russian in four seasons has at least 21 goals each season, with 31(career-best) in the 2024-25 season.

In the 2024-25 season, Marchenko also added 43 assists (a total of 74 points). This last season, Marchenko still did pretty well as he scored 27 goals and added 40 assists (67 points). The 25-year-old isn't as good as other superstars on the market, but there are multiple reasons to like Marchenko. Firstly, Marchenko is going to be 26, which is still relatively young, meaning he can grow into an even bigger star. But even more intriguing is the fact that the Columbus Blue Jackets can't ask for too much for Marchenko.

Why a trade makes a lot of sense

The Blue Jackets' goal-scoring capabilities were quite pathetic last season, as Marchenko was the team's top scorer, underscoring the team's real need for more offense. The Blue Jackets could definitely look for some top prospects or even picks, but Utah doesn't need to give up as much as they would if they were to trade for other players on the market that have been connected to Utah. Marchenko would provide some needed help to a Mammoth offense that was too reliant on Clayton Keller's stick, and he would make a lot of sense.

Simply put, the Blue Jackets need things shaken up a bit, and Utah can provide what they need. The Mammoth, according to David Pagnotta of the fourth period, have talked to Columbus about Marchenko, meaning that Utah may be trying to pull off a deal to bring him to Utah. For now, the Mammoth have been pretty quiet, but they may be quietly trying to trade for their next superstar. Marchenko can be that guy.
