The Utah Mammoth's offseason is probably over, but that doesn't mean the speculation is. Some people even think that there's one superstar the team still seeks. A Columbus Blue Jackets superstar, Kirill Marchenko, is the last domino left this offseason not to fall. Many teams are rumored to be going after him, but perhaps the Mammoth can pull off a big trade and bring Marchenko to Utah.
Could Utah acquire another superstar?
Right now, as it stands, Utah has already had a great offseason. Utah hasn't lost any meaningful stars while also acquiring Vincent Trocheck and Anders Lee. Trocheck is the superstar that Utah sought after trading away JJ Peterka to the Boston Bruins. Lee, meanwhile, 36, adds nice experience while not really sacrificing talent. However, even with these additions, Utah still might not be able to compete with the Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, and Minnesota Wild for the Central Division. Utah definitely would like to do so, so perhaps acquring someone like Marchenko would make a lot of sense.
Marchenko is rumored to be down to two teams, with the Canadiens as one and the other unknown. However, if the Mammoth makes the right deal, perhaps the Russians will be interested in Utah, which has a lot of Russians on its team. Marchenko, 25, is an offensive force and has been great for Columbus over the last two seasons, with 31 goals and 43 assists in 2024-25 and 27 goals and 40 assists in 2025-26. Marchenko has been the Blue Jackets' best offensive player and can be a huge difference-maker for Utah. Utah would have to give up potentially great young players and prospects, but perhaps they'd be willing to do so. Trocheck didn't cost as much as many thought he would, and Utah didn't have to give up too much.
