The Utah Mammoth have suddenly become a very active team, trading JJ Peterka to theBoston Bruins earlier and now trading for the 17th overall pick. Utah traded the 19th and 83rd overall picks to the Los Angeles Kings for the 17th selection, which Utah used very wisely. The Mammoth have selected a player who honestly shouldn't have fallen out of the first 10 picks, which is definitely something to be excited about for Mammoth fans.

Mammoth select interesting and physical Ethan Belchetz

Ethan Belchetz was consistently seen as a pick that would be selected at least in the first 12 picks. However, for whatever reason, many teams passed on Belchetz, which persuaded the Mammoth to trade up two picks to ensure that they could steal a player with high potential. Belchetz, 17, most recently in the OHL, scored 34 goals and added 25 assists in only 57 games with the Windsor Spitfires. Such numbers aren't too insane, but Belchetz is still very young and is committed to playing for the Michigan State Spartans, which is a nice way to develop.

Among the best college conferences in any sport is the BIG Ten, which is nice to see for the Mammoth, as he will develop well as a Spartan. Interestingly, as well, the left-winger is 6'5'' and weighs 228 lbs, highlighting his ability to be a big presence on the ice. Technically, the Mammoth of a man could very well grow in size, which is a nice thing to see, and it really shows Belchetz's potential. The trade and selection is a masterpiece for Utah, which only added to their long list of young stars.

What will be interesting to see, though, is if someone like Belchetz will remain in the Mammoth organization, as it seems likely that the Mammoth, who have over 20 million in salary cap space, are going to trade for someone big. It is all speculation for now, but the Mammoth have been very active. Overall, though, the selection of Belchetz was a very good one, and the trade to get the pick might have been even better.
