One free agent that may be very intriguing for the Mammoth

As the 2025-26 offseason begins, the Utah Mammoth will look to improve all facets of their game. However, even with that, the free agent class of this offseason is remarkably weak, and it leaves little options for the team. A trade feels like the most likely thing to occur now, but that doesn't mean there is one player who is... Interesting for Utah.

Alex Tuch may add some nice offense to Utah

The right-winger, Alex Tuch of the Buffalo Sabres, might be the best available free agent in the NHL after the 2025-26 season. Tuch put up some nice numbers this last season: 33 G, 33 A, 66 PTS, 24 +/-. Tuch, 30-years-old, has consistently been an offensive force with the Sabres after being traded to Buffalo in the trade that involved Jack Eichel. Tuch has had three 33+ goal seasons with the Sabres, with his best season being 2022-23, where he had 36 goals and 43 assists (79 points).

Tuch brings some experience and offense to any team that would sign him. For the Mammoth, they could use another 30 goal scorer who can also add some assists as well. Tuch could ultimately bring all of those things, and Utah could really benefit from a veteran who has the ability to score. Offensively, Tuch could basically provide the same offense that Dylan Larkin can. The Mammoth are reportedly still in the mix for Larkin, making Tuch even more interesting.

The free agency class offers little to nothing to Utah

Other than Tuch, the free agency class this season is just awful. Not many players are young, or even interesting at all for many teams, especially Utah. Most certainly, there will be more, at least than usual, trades this offseason. The free agency class just offers nothing for a team like the Mammoth, at least on a big scale, unless the player they sign is Tuch.

What this likely means is that the Mammoth will probably have to look to trade for stars in order to become the juggernaut they seek to become. This isn't a bad thing though when considering the youth and assets the Mammoth possess. For many teams, they don't have the kind of assets that Utah has, really putting them into a bad situation.

Even though the free agency class is quite unimpressive and not really interesting, the Mammoth might benefit from signing Alex Tuch. Tuch is an offensive force, and a force that every team, including Utah, needs.
