Utah Hockey Club will get a well-deserved break in December 2024
While anything can happen between when the puck first drops in mid-October and December 2024, Utah has some favorable matchups coming its way. Sure, December starts and ends with Utah facing arguably the Western Conference’s two best teams - the Dallas Stars and the Edmonton Oilers - but most of this month looks favorable.
The Buffalo Sabres still don’t look like a playoff team, and the Philadelphia Flyers are most likely a year out before they become serious contenders unless the Metropolitan Division is weak like it was last season. The Minnesota Wild look like they’re heading toward a rebuilding, or at least a restructuring phase, and the San Jose Sharks are rebuilding.
Anaheim won’t be competing this season, and there’s also a good chance the Seattle Kraken are a year away before they make a serious run at the playoffs again. That said, both games against Dallas and the Colorado Avalanche, plus one meeting apiece vs. the Vancouver Canucks and at the Oilers, will hurt. But overall, Utah should finish December with a winning record for the month.
