One preseason (trick) trivia question to remember for Utah Hockey Club fans

Utah Hockey Club fans will eventually have a long list of trivia questions to answer regarding their club, but there will also be a few trick questions.

The Utah Hockey Club is in the middle of its first preseason as an NHL franchise, and already, it’s been one to remember. Most of the time, preseason is the most forgettable time of the year, but an electric Delta Center and a subsequent win this past week, coupled with the fact this is the franchise’s first season, makes it memorable.

Anyway, some of that trivia will correspond to that first preseason win at the Delta Center, just as questions regarding who they first played to kick off their first preseason, where the game took place, and who won that game. But there will also be this trick question to answer: Who scored the first preseason goal in franchise history?

Well, it depends on how you define a goal. If it involves a player putting the puck into a net, the answer might just be Milos Kelemen or Dylan Guenther, depending on which player was deemed to have last touched the puck before it went into Utah’s own net. Notice the trick question?

Utah Hockey Club trivia will already have a trick question involved

Now, if the first preseason goal in franchise history had something along the lines of, “Which player scored the first goal that actually went into the correct net” or something similar, the answer would be Michael Carcone, who helped stimulate a surge that helped Utah beat the Blues this past Sunday 5-3.

So, as you can see, you may be facing quite the challenge when Utah HC trivia eventually arises during local and regional broadcasts. These “first time in franchise history” questions will be a staple in the Rock Black and Mountain Blue’s early seasons, but if you’re facing this question, pay special attention to the wording.

Also, it won’t be long until we find out which Utah Hockey player will score the first real, or regular season goal, in franchise history. Maybe Carcone will do that, but chances are, it will be one of the other 20 skaters who find a spot on the big club.

So, once again, pay attention to how these questions are worded. If the broadcast says “preseason” or “regular season” as the first in team history or, in time, “postseason,” you’ll be ahead of the curve. It’s funny how just a small twist in the way one words a trivia question can make it mean something completely different.
