The Utah Mammoth, who were the Arizona Coyotes before the 2024-25 season, have been rebuilding for the last half decade. However, the rebuild may just be over as the on July 1st, the team proved they seek to not compete in three, two, or even one year, they seek to compete now. By adding what they did, Utah is trying to drive there team to contention.
Mammoth trying to become contenders with recent additions
The Utah Mammoth, at least before yesterday, were quite a young team, with most of the core of the team being high draft picks that are still below the age of 28. Utah already is a contender, thanks to the fact that they were 43-33-6, but there was still a lot of areas to improve in. First, the Mammoth hired Adam Foote to help the defensive side of things, and also re-signed head coach Andre Tourigny. The Mammoth had a great draft weekend last week by adding a much needed goalie in Sebastian Cossa and also adding some more youth and assets by trading away JJ Peterka.
To help the youth and overall depth of the team, Utah decided to make a blockbuster move. Utah traded for 32-year-old Vincent Trocheck, who is pretty much good at everything. Trocheck joins a center room that already is pretty good, but not only does he bring skill, he also brings valuable experience. That wasn't the only great move the front office did to get closer to competing though. Utah has signed 35-year-old Anders Lee, a left-winger with a ton of experience who brings goal scoring capabilities and also great leadership (former captain of the New York Islanders). Ultimately, both moves highlight the teams wanting to get some good leadership. Better yet though, the Mammoth didn't just sign any veteran or trade for any veteran, they actually added a ton of talent too.
