The Mammoth need to see a more aggressive version of superstar center

It is clear that Logan Cooley needs to be more aggressive in one major offensive area.

The Utah Mammoth have had some good offensive performances thus far from some of their best stars.

Nick Schmaltz is tied for the league lead in goals with six and has the most power-play goals with four. Defenseman Mikhail Sergachev has totaled an impressive one goal and six assists in just six games. And finally, Clayton Keller already has one goal and seven assists.

Logan Cooley must shoot the puck more

In 2025-26, Logan Cooley scored 24 goals and added 19 assists in only 54 games. In other words, Cooley was a great goal scorer. Utah wanted more in the assists category, but of course goals are also critical.

Through six games, Cooley has scored five assists but no goals. Cooley has been good at setting up goals, which is critical for centers. But at the same time, Cooley being this quiet in the goal-scoring category hasn't been nice to see.

There is a major reason Cooley hasn't been able to score, though. He has only two shots on goal in six games. Such numbers can be acquired in the matter of just seconds. Obviously, Utah needs to see Cooley shoot more at the opposing goalie.

Cooley is too big a part of the offense to be left out of the shot at goal. Of course, if he can set up someone else for a better shot and thus create a goal, then either way Utah gets another goal. But getting shots is also about being aggressive.

At the end of the day, many great, speedy players create offense by pressing the issue. Cooley is among the fastest players in the NHL and clearly possesses a ton of talent. But he needs to use it to flip the game's momentum back toward the Mammoth.

All in all, Utah's offense has been pretty good. But Utah needs to see some critical parts of that offense awake. A better version of Cooley, and even Vincent Trocheck, will be huge for Utah in the future.
