The Utah Hockey Club and the rest of the NHL will return from a truncated February 2025 for March, and it’s one of the most important times of the season. For one, we’re looking at the trade deadline, so whether Utah is in the running mathematically or not, we’ll likely see some roster movement.
During their final season as the Coyotes, they were sellers after initially looking like buyers, but their first season in Utah can easily go in the opposite direction. Starting in October 2024, things don’t look easy for this crew in Salt Lake City, but on paper, those hardships could alleviate come December 2024.
Regardless of what Utah will look like come March 2025 and whether they will buy or sell at the trade deadline, let’s check out their schedule for the month and determine if it’s a favorable one.

Will the Utah Hockey Club have a strong March 2025?
Those first two games don’t look fun, I’ll reveal that much right off the bat. The Devils should be buyers at the trade deadline and the same will hold true for the Red Wings. Chicago will be respectable, so Utah can’t just assume it to be an easy win, and the only way they’re beating the Maple Leafs is if they outscore them 5-4.
Anaheim and Seattle look like a couple of easier matchups, but if Utah is off to a bad month, those games won’t be so easy. Going 2-2-0 to kick off March would make for a momentum boost, and it’s the ideal situation here, so a major factor in deciding these two games may boil down to recent success.
Then there’s Vancouver and Edmonton, another pair of tough teams and perhaps the toughest in the Western Conference. We don’t know what the Sabres will look like come March, but if they develop that hard-hitting, defense-first identity they’re undoubtedly after, Utah won’t be the only team struggling to beat them.
Following the tilt with the Sabres, Utah will play Tampa Bay twice, with Detroit sandwiched between them. Again, not a great prognosis, especially when you consider the Florida Panthers will be waiting after those three tough matchups. Finally, they end the month in Chicago to face the Blackhawks again, and if Utah’s demoralized here, this could make for an ultra-tough matchup.
March 2025 will test the Utah Hockey Club
Overall, March 2025 doesn’t look like a fun month, and if I were to make some picks right now, with all else being equal, I don’t like Utah’s chances. That said, if they can build momentum in January and February and keep it heading into March, Utah has a much better chance to make some noise.
Should they find themselves more than mathematically in the playoff hunt in March 2025, they will have no choice but to build off that momentum. And in that case, the stakes will be high for this team in front of their hometown crowd.
