As the Utah Mammoth prepare for the beginning of the 2026-27 season, they have added some key players who can make a huge difference.
This includes veterans and good depth pieces to help them compete in the Central Divison.
Who Utah has added
F, Vincent Trocheck:
Utah jumped into the trade market after trading away JJ Peterka, freeing up salary space and adding assets. Utah pulled off a surprising trade by acquiring forward Vincent Trocheck from the New York Rangers for Cole Beaudoin, defenseman Sean Durzi, and a third round pick.
Utah didn't give up nearly as much as the Rangers were originally demanding for the superstar. In 2025-26, Trocheck scored 16 goals and added 37 assists in 67 games, falling short of expectations but still providing good value to New York. The star center will likely play as a winger and is strong in every facet of the game, providing value on both ends of the ice. Plus, Trocheck adds a good veteran presence and has already been seen teaching younger guys like Tij Iginla.
LW, Anders Lee
Utah, on the same day it decided to trade for Trocheck, also signed veteran Anders Lee. Lee, 36, scored 19 goals and added 23 assists for the New York Islanders in 2025-26.
Despite the fact that Lee adds a lot of experience and will help younger guys (probably shouldn't expect much offense from Lee), Lee is still a good goal scorer. Lee remains effective as a dangerous scorer, something Utah did well in 2025-26. Lee has more offense in Utah than he did in New York, so having good numbers in 2026-27 seems possible.
Lee and Trocheck both add a nice veteran presence for the young Mammoth. That seemed to be a goal for the GM Bill Armstrong.
G Sebastian Cossa
Utah's lack of a strong backup goalie cost them in the 2025-26 season. That is why Utah added a former first-round pick, Sebastian Cossa. The Detroit Red Wings drafted Cossa 15th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft. The Red Wings never really needed the services of the highly touted prospect; as a result, Cossa stayed in the AHL, and Detroit traded him to Utah for the 23rd overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft.
Cossa, 23, is 6'6" and is probably goalie No. 2 coming into this season behind starter Karel Vejmelka. The future star has the chance to become one of the NHL's best goalies, with his frame and strong seasons in the AHL. Cossa should be exciting to watch in 2026-27, given the responsibility he has and his ceiling.
