The Utah Mammoth have announced multiple moves today after the
preseason loss to the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday night.
The team announced that Forwards Tij Iginla, Caleb Desnoyers, Yegor Borikov, and Gabe Smith will join goaltender Michael Hrabel in Tucson to start the upcoming season. Hrabel had a rough outing in the first preseason game when he played one period and allowed three goals in the 3rd period.
The forward group showed more promise. Borikov started out the preseason getting the first goal for the Mammoth. Iginla, Desnoyers, and Smith all show promise to make it to the NHL level at some point this season. They just need to see the speed of the NHL. Going to the Tucson Roadrunners will help them learn what they need to work on.
One of the biggest surprises announced today was that Brandon Tanev was placed on waivers. The 11-year vet didn't seem to fit with the team last season, not scoring in 56 games. While he brought a lot of energy, he struggled to grasp the offense, and fitting in with his linemates was difficult. Joining Tanev on waivers are Joshua Roy, whom the Mammoth traded for this offseason, and defenseman Zac Jones.
